Off the shoulder sweatshirt crop top

OFF THE SHOULDER SWEATSHIRT

A 20 MINUTE UPCYCLE WORTHY DIY

So the calendar says it’s spring…but my body is telling me it’s still winter. If you’re like me, you’re eager to wear your skin (as classy as possible) and simultaneously hate being cold! Sadly, we have to compromise with Ms. Mother Nature and this unpredictable weather. One day it’s a beautiful 70 degrees, and the next day it’s rainy and solid 50 (if we’re lucky). Hoodies can be perfect for those iffy days, but I am seriously sick of wearing the same old sweatshirts every other day. Just like the weather, it’s time for a change! Make this super cute off the shoulder sweatshirt in 20 minutes! It’ll spruce up your wardrobe all while still serving its original purpose! Practical and cozy should always go together!

So let’s make a cute off the shoulder sweatshirt!

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:

Knit elastic (I used 1 yd, 3/4″ wide

Scissors or rotary cutter:

An oversized sweatshirt

Cut a straight line across the sweatshirt, just below the collar.

Use your scissors to cut a straight line across your sweater. Make sure it’s just below the collar so that the sleeves won’t be crooked. Fold over (pin) and sew with a seam allowance correspondent to the width of your elastic. For instance, I used a 1″ seam allowance because my elastic is 3/4″. The elastic should have a little wiggle room so that you can feed it through the tube you’re creating.

Once the elastic is fed through the tube, sew the ends together then close the tube.

While sewing, leave an opening to feed the elastic through the tube. Sew the elastic ends together, then close the tube with a final stitch.

To see how much elastic is needed, wrap it around your shoulders and cut at the desired length. I cut my elastic just short of my measurement to make sure that it will fit snug. We don’t want to flash anybody. It’s not that kind of party.

TIME TO CROP THAT OFF THE SHOULDER SWEATSHIRT!

After finishing the top of my sweatshirt, I wasn’t happy. I still didn’t like the bulky bottom and decided to do the same for the bottom of my shirt to make it a crop top. Otherwise, I would have done all of the pinning then sewing at once. So I measured some excess elastic around my waist, cut the bottom, and repeated the same steps as I did for the top of the shirt.
