Make some Kate Spade inspired glitter shoes for just $10!
Hi! Thanks for stopping by! Today’s project is DIY glitter shoes! I LOVE everything that glitters! If it wasn’t frowned upon, I would sprinkle glitter everywhere I went. Glitter is just a happy little sparkly piece of joy that you find in unimaginable places even after you’ve scrubbed your skin off…kind of like sand.
Anyway! Every year, I attend an annual red shoe themed dance party and every year I like to challenge myself to be a little different than the year before. Two years ago, I hurriedly dumped a pair of old sneakers in mod podge, dumped an entire container of red glitter on them, and prayed that they would turn out like I’d imagined. Of course they didn’t. It definitely looked like my two year old had a glitter accident. Surprisingly I got a lot of compliments on them even though I wasn’t satisfied with the outcome. I left a trail of glitter at the venue, and I’m sure it may have been annoying to the owner.
So this year I decided to try again with a better method to make the shoes look as close to store bought as I could. Check out how I made a pair of glitter shoes for under $10!
Materials:
White sneakers (got mine from Walmart for $5.87)
Super fine glitter, color of,your choice (also got from Walmart for $2.94)
Satin Ribbon, color of your choice (I had some from a previous project, purchase at most stores)
Mod Podge (I already had some, a 4oz container from Dollar Tree for $1)
Paint brushes (I also had some laying around, but can also be purchased from Dollar Tree for $1)
I’m really happy with the way these turned out and I’d love to see your creations! Leave a picture in the comments!
Instructions:
1) Make sure you protect any furniture with plastic or newspaper for easy clean up and to prevent any glitter or decoupage spills.
2) Take the laces out of the shoes & use tape to cover the bottom of the shoes if you want the white to show.
3) Mix the decoupage and glitter together in a small disposable bowl or cup. (I am a glitter freak. The more glitter the better just as long as the consistency stays fluid and does not clump up)
4) Use the paint brush to paint the mixture onto your shoes in the desired areas. (I wanted my whole shoe glittered except for the bottoms)
5) It will begin to dry as you go along. Any areas that you may have missed will begin to be visible. Just go over it (without globbing it) using even strokes until you get the desired look you want.
6) Let dry, seal coat with adhesive spray for double protection, insert your laces or cut your ribbon to size and insert.
7) Wear your shoes and be the life of the party!
