Every year, our oldest daughter challenges me with a unique costume idea. She never just wants to be a princess or a simple witch, etc. In fact, how dare I even suggest such original costumes that require no effort (insert eye roll).
When she was two, she HAD to be a chicken. She wouldn’t take no for an answer. And so, she was a chicken. The next year, she fell for the unicorn craze. I searched high and low…even on the ever trusty Amazon, but there weren’t any costumes that she liked. Zero. Zip. Zilch. So we made her a unicorn…

The following year was the year of the butterfly, but not just ANY butterfly….a LIGHT UP butterfly. Challenge accepted!
The year after that? A mermaid. So there are plenty of mermaid costumes around. I mean, Ariel has been a staple costume for at least 20 years or more. However! My girl is a little less cookie cutter and much more expressive. She likes to stand out & be different. Plus, the weather was not in our favor this particular year (see below). We had 70º weather and a snow storm in the same week (not kidding). We always have to be prepared.
